How to Use the Word Finder

- Use the advanced filters to refine your search:
- Starts with -- find words beginning with specific letters
- Ends with -- find words ending with specific letters
- Contains -- find words that include a letter sequence anywhere
- Use the AND/OR toggle to control how multiple filters work together.
- Results show both Scrabble and WWF point values.
When to Use Pattern Matching
The Word Finder is most useful when you have partial information about the word you need:
- Crossword puzzles: You know some letters and positions. Use "starts with" and "ends with" to narrow down options.
- Board game plays: You need a word that connects to existing tiles. Filter by the letters that must appear in your word.
- Word games with constraints: Some games require words containing specific letter patterns.
AND vs OR Filtering
When you use multiple filters, the AND/OR toggle changes how they combine:
- AND mode -- words must match all filters. For example, starts with "CH" AND ends with "ING" finds words like "CHARGING."
- OR mode -- words must match at least one filter. Starts with "CH" OR ends with "ING" finds both "CHAIR" and "RUNNING."
AND mode is stricter and returns fewer, more targeted results. OR mode is broader and helps when you are exploring options.
