Essential 2-Letter Scrabble Words
Knowing valid 2-letter words is one of the most useful Scrabble skills. They let you play parallel words and score on multiple rows simultaneously. Some of the most useful 2-letter words include:
- QI (11 pts) -- the only Q word without U that fits on most boards
- ZA (11 pts) -- short for pizza, a high-scoring 2-letter play
- JO (9 pts) -- a Scottish term of endearment
- XI (9 pts) -- the 14th letter of the Greek alphabet
- XU (9 pts) -- a Vietnamese monetary unit
- AX (9 pts) -- a cutting tool
Scrabble Strategy Tips
- Balance your rack. Keep a mix of vowels and consonants. A good ratio is 3 consonants and 2 vowels.
- Save the S. An S tile can hook onto existing words for double scoring opportunities. Do not waste it on low-value plays.
- Target bonus squares. A 7-letter word using all your tiles earns a 50-point bonus (bingo). Triple word scores can turn modest words into 60+ point plays.
- Track tiles. As the game progresses, keep mental note of high-value tiles still in the bag.
- Block premium squares. If you cannot use a triple word square, consider blocking your opponent from reaching it.
